James Talarico speaking at church with LGBTQ pride flag draped over cross symbolizing progressive Christianity and false teaching

An Angel of Light

When I think of what the antichrist will be like, I can’t help but think he will be just like this guy. James Talarico is dangerous because he doesn’t look dangerous. He’s Harvard educated, a former teacher and seminary student. He wears cowboy boots, and drives a pickup truck, all with a warm smile. He quotes Scripture fluently and tells compelling stories that make you want to trust him. Everything about his presentation screams credible Christian leader, which is exactly what makes him so deadly.

II Corinthians 11:14-15 warns us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Satan doesn’t announce himself, he just shows up beautiful and persuasive, mixing just enough truth with lies to sound believable. He quotes Scripture, uses all the Christian buzzwords, and deceives you because you never saw him coming.

The most effective false teachers have never been obvious frauds. They’re intelligent enough to twist Scripture in ways that sound plausible if you don’t know what the Bible actually says. Talarico has gone viral arguing for abortion rights using Mary’s story. Millions have heard him defend LGBTQ ideology by claiming Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors. Millions think he’s just a Christian with different politics, not realizing he’s preaching a completely different gospel.

He could sway the masses because everything about him projects “thoughtful Christian who cares about people.” Major newspapers have endorsed him. He’s appeared on national podcasts. Young progressives see him as proof you can be Christian and affirm everything culture celebrates. Moderate Christians see him as a bridge between faith and politics. Secular Democrats see him as the kind of Christian they can tolerate. Everybody thinks he’s harmless.

The Pharisees looked religious too. They knew Scripture backwards and forwards. Jesus called them whitewashed tombs – beautiful outside, full of dead men’s bones inside (Matthew 23:27). Judas walked with Jesus for three years and betrayed Him for thirty pieces of silver. Appearance means nothing. Credentials mean nothing. The only thing that matters is whether someone’s teaching lines up with Scripture, and Talarico’s contradicts God’s Word at every turn.

A Wolf in Seminary Robes

James Talarico is a Texas state representative running for U.S. Senate, all while calling himself a Christian. He’s built his political career on twisted theology and blatant lies about what the Bible really teaches. He quotes Scripture twisting it to defend the right to murder babies. He pulls from the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas – a text rejected by the early church as heretical to justify transgender ideology. He stood on the Texas House floor and declared “God is non-binary.” He preaches universalism and progressive Christianity, offering a false gospel that damns souls.

Talarico won the Democratic Senate nomination in Texas in March 2026, running as the Christian alternative to Republicans. He defends LGBTQ rights, abortion, and open borders with Bible verses. He told Joe Rogan that Mary’s story proves the Bible sanctions abortion. He’s called transgender children “perfect, beautiful, and sacred” and fought against legislation protecting minors from irreversible medical mutilation procedures.

Jesus warned about men like this in Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” Talarico wears the costume perfectly – he prays on the House floor, preaches from pulpits, and quotes Scripture on command. He looks Christian. He sounds Christian. He’s anything but Christian.

God Is Not Non-Binary

In a Texas House floor speech, James Talarico declared “God is non-binary.” When called out, he defended himself by saying he was being “provocative” to make the point that “God is beyond gender.” There’s nothing provocative about rejecting how God chose to reveal Himself.

God reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus taught us to pray “Our Father.” God uses male pronouns throughout Scripture. That’s an intentional revelation of who He is. When you say God is non-binary, you’re telling God that He was wrong about how He identified Himself. That’s pride or deception, not theology.

Talarico is laying groundwork for transgenderism. If God is non-binary, then gender becomes meaningless. He’s weaponizing God to justify an ideology that contradicts Genesis 1:27: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God created only two genders. Male and female. Talarico’s theology erases that to make room for the lie that gender is self-determined.

Quoting Gnostic Texts as Scripture

Talarico has quoted the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas to back up his theology. In his sermon on gender equality, he paraphrased Logion 114: “When you make the male and the female one and the same, when the male is not male, the female is not female, then you will enter the Kingdom of God.” He presented this as biblical support for erasing gender distinctions.

The Gospel of Thomas is not Scripture. It’s a gnostic text written in the second century, and rejected by the early church. Using it to defend Christian doctrine is like quoting the Quran to prove Jesus is God.

Galatians 1:8 says, “Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!” Paul said cursed – damned, condemned, under God’s judgment. He repeated the warning in verse 9. Talarico preaches a different gospel, pulling from texts condemned seventeen centuries ago.

His Pro-Abortion Theology Is a Lie

On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Talarico argued that the Bible sanctions abortion using Mary’s story. According to him, an angel asked Mary if pregnancy was something she wanted, she gave consent, and therefore “creation has to be done with consent – you cannot force someone to create.”

The angel Gabriel didn’t ask for Mary’s permission. He announced she would conceive by the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Savior. Mary’s response in Luke 1:38 was “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” This was submission to God’s will, not consent to pregnancy. Talarico took faithful submission and twisted it into abortion rights.

His argument also ignores what the Bible says about life in the womb. Psalm 139:13-16 says God forms our inward parts and knits us together in our mother’s womb, fearfully and wonderfully made. God creates life in the womb. Life begins at conception. Abortion is murder. Talarico condones and encourages abortion.

Universalism: All Paths Lead to God

In a Texas House prayer, Talarico said “Holy Mystery: you have so many names. The Torah calls you Creator, the Quran calls you Peace, the Gita calls you Destroyer, the Dharma calls you Truth and the First Epistle of John calls you perhaps the most beautiful name of all: Love.” When Christians objected to his blatant universalism, he acted shocked anyone found it “controversial.” Universalism is the belief that all religions are different paths to the same God.

Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Not Buddha. Not Muhammad. Not Krishna. Jesus. One way. The God of the Bible is not the same as the god of the Quran or the gods of Hinduism. Either Jesus is the only way, or He’s a liar. Talarico just called Jesus a liar.

Acts 4:12: “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone. Talarico’s universalism denies that and replaces it with a feel-good lie that leads people straight to hell.

LGBTQ Theology That Contradicts Scripture

Talarico is an aggressive LGBTQ advocate who frames it as a Christian mandate. He’s said “You cannot love your neighbor while legislating against them,” as if biblical love requires affirming sexual sin. He’s called transgender children “perfect, beautiful, sacred” and opposed legislation protecting minors from puberty blockers and irreversible child-mutilation surgeries. He serves on the Texas LGBTQ Caucus. His pastor, Reverend Jim Rigby, was put on trial by the Presbyterian Church in the 1990s for ordaining gay clergy in direct violation of Scripture.

Romans 1:26-27: “For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.” God calls homosexuality sin. I Corinthians 6:9-10 makes it clear that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Talarico claims biblical love requires affirming LGBTQ identities. The Bible says love requires telling the truth. Proverbs 27:6: “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.” Telling someone they’re fine in their sin when God says that sin excludes them from His kingdom isn’t love – it’s betrayal.

Progressive Christianity Is a False Gospel

Talarico represents progressive Christianity – Christianity with everything that’s offensive to others removed. No hell. No wrath. No judgment. No repentance. No exclusive claims about Jesus. Just endless talk about love, inclusion, and affirming whatever culture celebrates. It sounds compassionate. It’s a false gospel that leaves people comfortable in sin while convincing them they’re saved.

Progressive Christianity redefines every major biblical doctrine. Instead of preaching about sin, repentance and salvation through Christ, he preaches about racism, social justice, and political liberation. Instead of warning about hell and calling people to repentance, he focuses on societal problems and cultural issues. He’s replaced the cross with activism, the gospel with politics, and salvation with social change. Those aren’t minor adjustments – they’re complete redefinitions creating an entirely different religion. Colossians 2:8 warns, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”

Talarico’s Christianity doesn’t require repentance, doesn’t confront sin, doesn’t preach the cross, doesn’t warn about hell. It offers affirmation instead of transformation, acceptance instead of holiness, inclusion instead of regeneration. It’s humanism with a Christian aesthetic.

Scripture Named Him First

II Peter 2:1-3 warns that false teachers will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying the Master who bought them. Many will follow their example, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. In their greed they’ll exploit believers with false words.

Jude 1:4 says certain people have crept in who pervert God’s grace into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ as our only Master and Lord. Talarico perverts grace when he turns it into permission for sexual sin. He denies Jesus when he preaches that all religions lead to the same God.

Matthew 7:21-23 is terrifying. Jesus says not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter heaven. On judgment day many will say “Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name and do mighty works in your name?” Jesus will say “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” Talarico calls Jesus Lord. He preaches in Jesus’ name. One day he might hear those devastating words: “I never knew you.”

A Warning to Texas Voters

James Talarico is running for Senate claiming to represent biblical Christianity. He’s already on the ballot. If you vote for him thinking you’re supporting a Christian with progressive views, you’re being deceived. His theology denies Scripture’s authority, redefines the gospel, celebrates what God condemns, and leads people away from Christ toward false salvation.

Christians have a biblical responsibility to test every teacher. I John 4:1: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” Test Talarico against Scripture and he fails. His doctrine contradicts God’s Word. Voting for him doesn’t make you compassionate – it makes you complicit in spreading lies about God.

You can disagree on politics and still recognize whether someone is a genuine Christian. Talarico isn’t preaching different politics with the same gospel. He’s preaching a different god, different gospel, different Jesus, different salvation. Texas voters need to understand what they’re choosing – not a progressive Christian, but a false teacher using Christianity as camouflage.

The Church’s Responsibility

The church in Texas must publicly expose Talarico as a false teacher. Pastors need to warn their congregations. Christians need to speak up. When a man quotes gnostic texts as Scripture, promotes abortion as God-sanctioned, denies Christ’s exclusive claim to salvation, and declares God is non-binary, the church cannot stay quiet. Ephesians 5:11: “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”

Titus 1:9 says elders must hold firm to the trustworthy word so they can give instruction in sound doctrine and rebuke those who contradict it. The church’s job is to rebuke him publicly, warn people about his teaching, and make clear he does not represent biblical Christianity.

Speaking truth about false teachers is love, not hate. Love warns about danger. Love exposes lies. Love tells truth even when uncomfortable. Talarico is leading people to hell with a smile and selected Bible verses. The loving response is warning everyone. Texas Christians must stand up and say: James Talarico does not speak for us. He does not represent biblical Christianity. He is a wolf, and every sheep needs warning.

Don’t Be Deceived

II Timothy 4:3-4 warns that people will not endure sound doctrine but will accumulate teachers to suit their own passions, turning away from truth to wander into myths. People want teachers who make them feel good about choices Scripture condemns. James Talarico is exactly that teacher. He tells people what they want to hear. He makes progressive politics sound biblical. He offers Christianity that requires no sacrifice and condemns no sin.

Don’t be one of those people. Test everything against Scripture. Hold fast to sound doctrine regardless of how unpopular biblical truth becomes. Reject false teachers no matter how charismatic or credentialed they are. Expose them publicly. Warn everyone. Protect the gospel. Know God’s truth well enough to recognize counterfeits.

The stakes are eternal, and the cost of his false gospel to this country is just as real. False teaching sends people to hell. People who believe a false gospel are not saved no matter how sincere their faith. II Corinthians 11:3-4 warns, “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different Spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.” Anyone who believes a different gospel is lost. Talarico preaches a different gospel. Don’t follow him. Don’t vote for him. Don’t stay silent. Expose him as the false teacher he is.
